NTT DATA Announces Winners of Hackathon for AI Innovations in Healthcare

Technology enthusiasts and developers were awarded for creating innovative solutions to solve healthcare challenges

Bengaluru, India – Aug. 9, 2022 – NTT DATA, a global digital business and IT services leader, today announced the winners of the NTT DATA AI Hackathon as part of TechGig Code Gladiators 2022. The participants were tasked with building solutions to improve outcomes of detection of diseases and management of healthcare using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The winner and two runners-up were selected after evaluating 200 entries.

The winning entry from team Geek Squad built a solution that leverages Natural Language Processing (NLP) and AI to predict symptoms from free text and efficiently provides a preliminary medical diagnosis. Their solution is effective in the post-pandemic era as it is contactless and has remote capabilities, aiding first-line medical professionals to make a diagnosis.

The first runners-up were the Dogs&Cats team. They developed a solution that enables an early diagnosis of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, also known as PCOS, through machine learning (ML) and deep learning.

The second runners-up were the Innovators team. Their solution aims to detect epileptic seizures 10 minutes before the attack, enabling timely medical intervention.

The 200 entries were shortlisted to 10 who were then given 22 hours to build a working prototype of their solution. The finalists made pitches to the jury after which the three best solutions were selected. The winning team has been awarded INR 1,50,000, and the first and second runners-up received INR 1,25,000 and INR 75,000, respectively, along with an opportunity to be interviewed for jobs at NTT DATA.
